Background
Working to support the School of Policy and Global Affairs (SPGA), this role is the most senior position overseeing the key areas of Quality and Student Experience. Managing a small but varied team, this role is critical to ensuing that the School not only embeds an excellent student experience throughout its academic administration function, but also does so within our regulatory compliance framework.
SPGA combines the departments of Economics, International Politics, and Sociology & Criminology. Having experienced significant growth in the last few years, particularly at undergraduate level, this job plays a key role in managing the services that safeguard the quality of our student experience, and ensures that we are able to deliver that efficiently and effectively at increasing scale. We have a strongly student-focused strategy, and this role leads on the implementation of a number of key initiatives to support measurable improvements in outcomes for our students, including in the areas of continuation, engagement, and attainment.
Responsibilities
This role will lead the development of Quality and Student Experience processes and policy implementation within the school, while being a key voice on the academic administrative leadership team. They will work closely with academic and professional colleagues to deliver success across a wide brief, contribute to institutional decision-making in these areas, and lead their team supportively to address emerging challenges during change.
The role holder will provide expert guidance to staff on student experience, quality control, compliance, and regulatory requirements. They will oversee appeals and complaints, lead disciplinary investigations in line with university policy, and serve as the school’s Designated Safeguarding Officer.
Person Specification
You will have a strong background in either the quality or the student experience sides of HE administration, with some understanding of the other and a willingness to learn. You will have had experience managing in at least one of these areas. You will have a strong sense of the current issues facing the sector and the role of an effective professional services team to help mitigate these, while ensuring an excellent student-focused team culture, with a commitment to continuous improvement in a time of change.
