Are you an empathetic leader with the ability to connect and inspire the alumni community of a progressive educational institution? Hertford College is seeking a Head of Alumni and Donor Relations to join our high-performing and close-knit Development team. This newly created role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of alumni engagement and philanthropic support at a pivotal moment in the College’s history. Following our 150th anniversary and the appointment of Prof Patrick Roche as Interim Principal, we’re undertaking the most ambitious building programme in a century, alongside investing in student financial support and academic posts
You’ll lead our alumni relations, regular giving, and stewardship programmes - ensuring our global alumni community of 10,000 remains engaged, supportive and informed. This will include devising and launching a new alumni offering in 2026.
Reporting to the Director of Development, you’ll manage a talented team and collaborate across departments to deliver strategic communications, events, and fundraising initiatives. You’ll also oversee data and processes to ensure our work is insight-driven and efficient.
We’re looking for someone with outstanding organisational skills, emotional intelligence, and a passion for higher education and philanthropy. Experience in alumni relations or fundraising is essential, and a background in higher education is desirable.
Join a friendly, forward-thinking college known for its progressive values and commitment to access, sustainability, and student support.
Some flexibility in working hours will be necessary, as the role requires attending events in the evening or at weekends. The postholder will also be expected to undertake some travel within the UK and, potentially, internationally.
At Hertford, we are motivated by potential as much as experience. We would welcome applications from candidates who have the skills and aptitudes to excel in this role, regardless of their background. Please do get in touch if you would like an informal conversation about this role.
You will benefit from support and working in close collaboration with the rest of our committed Hertford community. We will invest in your personal development through training and professional development. We offer a generous benefits package, including a pension scheme with a generous employer contribution level, 28 days holiday plus bank holiday, an employee discount platform with access to thousands of retail discounts, social events and many more.
