OPDC Cohort office, Level 6, West Wing, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, OX3 9DU
A key aim of this exciting post is to improve the earlier diagnosis and treatment for PSP. This research will benefit from inclusion in a national network for Parkinson’s Plus Syndromes including PSP, the MRC funded ExPRESS study (Early assessment, diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson’s Plus Related Syndromes, PI Professor Huw Morris, UCL and Co-I Professor Michele Hu, Oxford).
PSP is a rare form of atypical Parkinsonism that can mimic Parkinson’s disease and affects 5 people per 100,000 of the general population. PSP presents with falls and motoric impairment alongside cognitive and neuropsychiatric features. There is currently a lack of robust biomarkers to accurately diagnose PSP early- a key challenge as all disease modifying treatment trials have so far failed for this condition. The use of digital technology has dramatically increased over the years, and there are emerging technologies that we want to utilize and evaluate early on in patients that get recently referred by their GP with a movement or cognitive disorder. Some of these technologies include digital smartphone tests, wearable devices, saccadometry, digital cognitive testing, specialist spinal fluid and blood tests, and advanced MRI brain scans.
The post holder will be based at the Oxford University Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences and Oxford University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (John Radcliffe Hospital).
Please see the below 'Job Description' for further details on the responsibilities and selection criteria, as well as further information about the university and how to apply.
The post is full time for a fixed term of 12 months in the first instance, with possibility of extension.
Only applications received before 12.00 midday on Monday 22nd September will be considered.
Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.
