THE ROLE 

CDT Manager – UKRI AI Centre for Doctoral Training in AI for Digital Media Inclusion

Are you passionate about inclusive innovation, strategic leadership, and the transformative potential of AI in digital media?

The Surrey Institute for People-Centred AI (PAI) is seeking an exceptional CDT Manager to lead the delivery and operations of the UKRI-funded Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in AI for Digital Media Inclusion. This dynamic new role is central to empowering the next generation of PhD researchers who will develop responsible and inclusive AI technologies for the digital media industries.

As CDT Manager, you will:

  • Lead, plan, and execute all operational and strategic activities across our two partner universities.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for a wide range of stakeholders – from PhD researchers and academic leaders to industry collaborators.
  • Ensure high standards of governance, accountability, and training delivery.
  • Line-manage and support a high-performing professional services team.
  • Work closely with the CDT leadership and the PAI Director of Strategy to align efforts with Surrey’s mission in People-Centred AI.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Thrives in complex, cross-institutional environments.
  • Brings extensive experience in programme/project management, ideally in research or higher education.
  • Communicates with clarity, compassion, and professionalism.
  • Is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in both technology and teamwork.
  • Has a proactive attitude driven by enthusiasm for AI and creative technologies.
