You’ll play a key part in maintaining and optimising our systems, driving service development, and improving processes to ensure researchers can achieve exceptional outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment at the forefront of digital research support.

Key Responsibilities

As a Research IT Officer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Specialist systems & applications: Support, install, and administer non-standard or bespoke research software, hardware, storage, and networks not covered by the standard IT service catalogue.
  • Technical integration & development: Assist with programming, scripting, data collection, and integrating new or legacy technologies in line with IT standards.
  • Training & engagement: Deliver training for researchers, and coordinate with the wider Research IT community across the University and partners.
  • Advisory & compliance: Offer expert advice on procurement, system security, patching, and ensuring compliance with legal, technical, and research-specific requirements.

The Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • A proactive and innovative approach to service improvement, with a focus on efficiency, automation, and enhancing the researcher experience.
  • The ability to engage effectively with academics and researchers, understanding their needs and helping translate research goals into effective technical solutions.
  • An understanding of processes related to resource usage, reporting, and cost recovery in a research context.
  • A collaborative mindset, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to working as part of a supportive, service-focused team.
