We are seeking a committed HE quality and governance expert with management experience who shares our values and ambition to support the delivery of high-quality academic provision across the University. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity of our academic quality assurance and enhancement systems, working closely with colleagues across the institution and with external stakeholders.

Reporting to the Head of Quality, the Deputy Head of Quality will lead on the delivery of course and institutional approval events, manage the external examiner system, and oversee academic governance through the management of a small team. This is a key post within the Quality & Standards team, contributing to the University’s strategic goals and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Course Approval and Review: Lead the scheduling, coordination, and delivery of approval and review events, ensuring alignment with the University’s Academic Quality Framework.
  • Academic Governance: Act as secretary to key committees including the Teaching Quality & Standards Committee and deputise for the Head of Quality at Academic Board.
  • External Examiner Management: Administer the nomination process and maintain oversight of the external examiner cohort.
  • Training and Guidance: Develop and deliver training materials for academic staff and event chairs, providing expert advice on quality assurance processes.
  • PSRB Accreditation Oversight: Manage the risk register and central records, supporting Faculties with professional body requirements.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Produce high-quality reports and maintain accurate records to support decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Team Leadership: Line manage members of the Quality & Standards team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
