The University of Hertfordshire is opening a new Medical School with the first cohort of our students starting in September 2026. We have a very enthusiastic core team already working on the project, with City St George’s Medical School, University of London, acting as our sponsor. We are now expanding our team to develop and fully implement the MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) programme and are seeking an experienced and motivated professional to join our Student Administration Service as Deputy Head (MBBS) to lead on student administration activities for the programme.
Main duties and responsibilities
In this newly created key leadership role, you will assume overall responsibility for all student-related administration of our new MBBS programme, managing a dedicated team of staff and working closely with NHS partners, clinical placement providers, and colleagues across the University. You will ensure compliance with university regulations and General Medical Council requirements, support the delivery of student assessments and allocation of placements, oversee student records, and contribute to delivering an excellent service and high-quality experience for our students. As a member of the Senior Management Team, you will play a central role in shaping the operational delivery of the MBBS programme at the University of Hertfordshire.
Skills and experience required
The ideal candidate will have substantial administrative experience in a large, complex environment and experience of working with a wide range of stakeholders. We are looking for someone with proven people management skills with the ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams. You should possess excellent organisational, problem-solving, and communication skills and a strong understanding of regulations, policies, and data management. It is also essential that you have excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, and the ability to build credibility and collaborate effectively with senior academic and professional colleagues.
Qualifications required
You will be educated with a minimum of a degree or equivalent or proven administrative experience.
