KTP Associate – AI-Driven Personalised Health App Development (BioCare & Aston University)

Aston University and BioCare are collaborating on a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project to develop an innovative mobile/web application powered by AI to deliver personalised nutrition and lifestyle recommendations. This solution will combine insights from genetics, body systems, and environmental factors.

BioCare, based in Redditch, is a leading provider of professional food supplements, known for a naturopathic, holistic approach and strong emphasis on education and expert advice. The KTP associate will be embedded within the company, following its hybrid working model (3 days in office, 2 from home).

Key Objectives:

  • Develop AI-driven models (ML/DL) for personalised health and supplement recommendations.
  • Handle sensitive genetic and health data securely and ethically (GDPR/NHS DTAC compliant).
  • Create mobile/web applications for data collection and decision support.
  • Collaborate with nutritionists, developers, and stakeholders to build user-friendly solutions.
  • Lead the digital transformation from an analogue to intelligent digital Adaptive Health system.

Candidate Profile:

  • Minimum MSc in AI, ML, Data Science or related field + ideally 2 years of industry experience (PhD desirable).
  • Strong skills in ML/DL, data science, Python, full stack and mobile app development (React Native, Flutter).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP), data management, DevOps, and workflow automation.
  • Excellent problem-solving, time management, and communication skills.
  • Team player able to work independently and liaise with cross-disciplinary teams.

Desirable:

  • Experience in digital health, health informatics, or personalised nutrition.
  • Familiarity with interoperability standards (FHIR, FL7), regulatory frameworks, and user-centred design.
  • Prior research or KTP project exposure and project management skills.
