About the Role
We are looking for a highly organised and detail-oriented Administrative and Editorial Assistant to support research and project activity within the School of Engineering and Materials Science (SEMS).
In this varied and collaborative role, you will work closely with Dr Paul Balcombe (Reader in Chemical Engineering and Renewable Energy) across a number of research and administrative projects. This includes providing editorial support on research outputs and grant proposals, creating templates, visuals and diagrams, managing project schedules, communicating with external stakeholders, and supporting budgeting and financial tasks.
The role is offered on a part-time basis (0.5 FTE), on a six-month contract, and can be undertaken remotely. There is strong potential for this contract to be extended dependent on available funding from research projects.
About You
You will have a degree, ideally in a relevant subject area, and demonstrable experience editing and proofreading technical content for academic and non-specialist audiences. You should also be confident using tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Planner and Sharepoint to manage communications, schedules and templates.
Excellent time management, organisational and communication skills are essential, alongside the ability to manage multiple tasks and liaise effectively with industry and academic partners. Experience developing budgets, timelines and project management tools (e.g. Gantt charts, action trackers) would be advantageous.
About the School
This post is within the School of Engineering and Materials Science, a large School with 100 academics and 60 postdoctoral research staff. There are around 1500 undergraduate and postgraduate students and 260 PhD students. These are supported by an administrative and technical staff team of 56. The staff and student body are international in make-up.
