We seek a Head of Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics who will also serve as the Robert Rankin Chair of Engineering. Candidates should have a strong international research profile in a field within the remit of Electrical Engineering and Electronics (EEE), along with experience in successfully leading a team or holding a responsible role in an academic department or school. As Head of Department, the successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the Department, as well as for setting and executing the longer-term strategy for ensuring that the Department is a modern, professional and international centre for excellence in research and teaching in electrical engineering and electronics. The Head of Department will work closely with the Dean of the School of Engineering and be a key member of the School Leadership Team. This professorial level role requires the successful candidate to have track record of sustained production of high-quality research outputs, evidence of grant income secured from a range of sources and a solid understanding of effective higher education teaching. Familiarity is also required with the operational aspects of running a Department within a University setting. Candidates will be able to demonstrate an ability to lead a diverse team and act as a role model in continually striving for a successful and inclusive work environment. The successful candidate is expected to take up the Head of Department role in April 2026 and the role will initially be for a duration of five years.
