About us

The Imaging Core Facilities at King’s College London are part of Research Platforms, which sits within the Research Management and Innovation Directorate (RMID). These specialist facilities offer a wide and evolving portfolio of advanced microscopy technologies to support research across King’s and beyond.

There are three facilities within the Imaging Core Facilities: the Nikon Imaging Centre, the Microscopy Innovation Centre and the Centre for Ultrastructural Imaging. These centres provide access to a broad range of imaging techniques, from widefield and super-resolution microscopy to electron and cryo-electron microscopy.

The facilities are supported by a dedicated Image Analysis Service, offering tailored project support and access to high-performance computing and advanced software. This integrated approach helps researchers process and interpret complex image data with precision, enabling discoveries across the life and biomedical sciences.

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated, talented, creative and rigorous data scientist to join the team as BioImage Analysis Specialist. This role supports our large multidisciplinary user base with specialist image data processing and analysis expertise, to extract useful quantitative insights from the complex data generated by users of the facilities. While projects span a wide range of fields from the various faculties and departments within King's, in addition to external users, this role particularly focus on biomedical and life sciences applications.

This involves the analysis of multidimensional imaging data acquired on high-end instruments using a variety of modalities, primarily fluorescence microscopy but also EM, correlative, and multi-modal approaches, and covering all scales from molecular processes and biophysical measurements to the development of entire organs and organisms.

The successful candidate will be joining an enthusiastic team enabling world-class research in an exciting environment where innovation is paramount, supporting diverse facility users with projects at the interface of biology, physics, and technology development. The main responsibility is to ensure the smooth, end-to-end delivery of a reliable, professional image analysis service.

This includes the full project cycle: from initial consultation and project design, through data preparation and pre-processing, to developing custom workflows or special analysis tools, automating pipelines and optimising, scaling and adapting solutions. This role also involves providing training and preparing data output for scientific publications.

This is a full-time, (35 hours per week) position, offered on an indefinite contract.

The role is based at the Guy’s campus and part of the King’s Research Platforms Core Facilities Team and the wider Research Technical Professionals community at King’s. We are committed to research excellence and to building a positive, supportive culture where everyone’s encouraged to grow in their role, and beyond.
