Summary of the role
At the University of Exeter, our Wellbeing Services team plays a vital role in supporting students to thrive both personally and academically. We provide a range of professional psychological, emotional and mental health support to help students navigate the challenges of university life.
As Counselling and Psychological Therapy Pathway Lead, you’ll head up a team of dedicated Wellbeing Consultants, helping to shape and deliver our psychological therapies provision. You’ll manage day-to-day operations, oversee clinical work, supervise trainees, provide counselling to students, and ensure high standards across the service. This is a dynamic and varied role with a strong emphasis on leadership, collaboration, and direct therapeutic work with students who may present with complex or high-risk needs.
About you
We are looking for a qualified and accredited (BACP/UKCP) counselling or mental health professional with a core training in counselling, psychotherapy, psychology, or a related discipline. You’ll bring substantial clinical experience, a strong understanding of mental health in an HE context, and the ability to lead and inspire a team. Experience in supervision and service development will be key, alongside a commitment to inclusive, student-focused care.
If you’re passionate about supporting student wellbeing and want to take on a leadership role that makes a real difference—we’d love to hear from you.

We are committed to ensuring reasonable adjustments are available for interviews and workplaces.
Whilst all applicants will be judged on merit alone, we particularly welcome applications from groups currently underrepresented within our working community.
With over 30,000 students and 7,000 staff from 150 different countries we offer a diverse and engaging environment where our diversity is celebrated and valued as a major strength.
