Contract: Full time – 0.8 FTE (cover until March 2027)
This is a one year (0.8 FTE) fixed term appointment for maternity cover. The post holder will provide a high quality, fast turnaround analytical service to both internal and external customers specialising in methods of materials characterisation such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM); thermal analysis and atomic force microscopy (AFM) as part of the Oxford Materials Characterisation Service (OMCS) team. The successful applicant will assist with maintenance and servicing of the Department’s analytical facilities, advise on the use of these techniques and in the interpretation of data, and also assist in the training of students and other researchers in thermal analysis techniques and atomic force microscopy. The successful applicant will also lead in maintaining OMCS health and safety.
With a background in materials characterisation you will be self-motivated, able to plan and deliver a commercial service to time and budget. You will have a PhD (or be near completion) in physical science and experience in advanced analysis.
Working as part of the OMCS team delivering services to industry across a wide range of sectors and materials often under demanding timescales and complex problems.
