We are seeking to appoint a Clinical Research Fellow to support DEN-HOST, a large multi-site, multi-country randomised adaptive phase 3 clinical trial evaluating therapeutics in patients with moderate or severe dengue. The aim of DEN-HOST is to identify safe, effective and affordable treatments that prevent disease progression in patients at high risk, improve outcomes for those with established severe disease, and ultimately reduce the burden of dengue on health systems in endemic regions.
The trial will recruit up to 8,000 patients over 5 years across 25 sites in 10 countries, working through international networks including RECOVERY, ISARIC, PREPARE and OUCRU. The study is led by Professor Yacoub, Chief Investigator, based at the Pandemic Sciences Institute (NDM, Oxford) in collaboration with the Clinical Trial Service Unit (CTSU) and OUCRU Vietnam. You will work closely with colleagues at the Central Coordinating Office in Oxford, regional coordinating centres in participating countries, and local clinical centres across Asia and Latin America.
You will be responsible for supporting the design, implementation and quality assurance of the trial, ensuring all patient-related research complies with the highest standards of clinical governance and Good Clinical Practice. You will contribute to regulatory applications, ethics submissions, and the development of trial documentation and management systems in collaboration with CTSU. You will provide clinical expertise to trial operations and data analysis, contribute to the safe and compliant delivery of research across international sites, and be available for short-term overseas travel to support study sites. You will also disseminate findings through publications and conferences, and contribute to the academic life of the department through seminars, teaching, and collaborative research.
It is essential you are GMC registered with a full licence to practise medicine in the UK and hold a National Training Number in Infectious Diseases combined with General Medicine, Medical Virology or Medical Microbiology (or an equivalent qualification for non-UK applicants). You will hold, or be able to obtain, an NHS Honorary Contract and possess MRCP or another relevant professional qualification. You must bring strong clinical experience, ideally with dengue or other infectious diseases, and proven experience as an investigator or co-investigator in clinical research. A sound understanding of Good Clinical Practice, research ethics and governance frameworks is essential, along with excellent written and spoken communication skills. You should also be willing and able to undertake short-term travel to study sites in Asia and Latin America.
Applications for this vacancy should be made online via the above ‘Apply’ button and you will need to upload a supporting statement and CV. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience. Please restrict your documentation to your CV and supporting statement only. Any other documents will be requested at a later date.
This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 12 months and is funded by Wellcome. Please note that shortlisted candidates will be invited for the interview on Friday 31 October 2025.
Only applications received before 12 midday on 20 October 2025 will be considered. Please quote 182202 on all correspondence.
