We are looking for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Writing for Young People to join the Creative Writing team at Bath Spa University. We are keen to recruit someone who is passionate about writing for young people and young adults and who will bring their industry knowledge and expertise as an established author to their teaching and research. 

(This is a Fixed Term, part-time 0.4 contract from September 2025 – August 2026)

About the Role

Within this role you will be designing and delivering teaching and assessment on our MA Writing for Young People programme as well as contributing to undergraduate teaching and or short courses in creative writing. The role will also involve managing modules and assessments via the University’s virtual learning environment, supporting programme development, and engaging in key activities such as student recruitment and open days. 

As part of our Creative Writing community, you will be engaging in relevant research and scholarly activity in support of the university’s research strategy, contributing to internal and external networks, and building productive relationships with external partners. You will also be supervising and mentoring colleagues with less experience, advising on their personal development.

About You

  • Experience of university level learning, teaching and assessment in Creative Writing
  • Publication record as a writer for children and/or young adults.
  • Knowledge and experience of writing for children and/or young adults sector
  • Use of digital learning environments and e-learning tools
  • Relevant research degree and experience
  • Experience of curriculum design and development
  • Experience of developing and running short courses
  • Interest in pedagogic innovation and working with external partners
  • HEA Fellowship is desirable but not essential

Additional Information

Salary Grade -
Ac3S - Lecturer Starting from £17,898 per annum pro rata £44,746
Ac3A - Senior Lecturer - Starting from £19,529 per annum, pro rata £48,823

This is a Fixed Term, part-time 0.4 contract from September 2025 – August 2026
  • Applicants with less than five years teaching experience in Higher Education of at least 0.8FTE or equivalent who do not hold a Teaching and Learning in Higher Education Certificate accredited by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) or HEA fellowship will be required to complete an approved Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education course during the first two years of employment.
  • Applicants with more than five years teaching experience in Higher Education of at least 0.8FTE or equivalent who do not hold a Teaching and Learning in Higher Education Certificate accredited by the Higher Education Academy (HEA) or HEA fellowship will be required to accredit their practice through the HEA fellowship application process during their 6 month probation period.
