As a Technician in our Mechanical Workshop you will be responsible for aiding staff and students in the manufacture of bespoke components and equipment for experimental and research purposes that will be used in all environments from beneath the oceans, cleanrooms, high voltage labs to outer space and everything in between. 

To be successful, you will be an experienced machinist having completed a recognised engineering apprenticeship with a minimum City & Guilds/ NVQ Level 3-4 in Mechanical Engineering or having proven work experience acquired in relevant technical support roles. You will be able to use your skills and experience to manufacture complex and high precision work, machining components from specialist materials using a range of conventional machine tools such as Centre Lathes and Vertical Mills. Ideally with experience of CNC machining including multi-axis CNC Mills, CNC Lathes and EDM. The ability to programme, set and operate would be highly beneficial although training could be provided for the right candidate. You will also possess excellent hand skills. 

You will be an effective communicator able to explain technical issues to those less experienced and where English may be their second language. Pitching in to solve unique experimental manufacture and design solutions will be your second nature and you will always be looking to deliver results in the most efficient way and enhancing customers' experience.

You will have excellent time management skills to be able to work in a fast-paced environment. You will be used to working to tight tolerances and unaccompanied producing one off components to engineering drawings.
