Faculty Position in AI/Applied AI for Human and Social Sciences

Faculty Position (Open Rank) in AI/Applied AI for Human and Social Sciences is effective from Spring 2026 (or until filled).

Position Summary 

KIMEP University invites applications for a faculty position. The position is joint appointments for School of Computer Science and Mathematics and College of Human Sciences and Education

The position is a three-year full-time academic appointment to begin on 15 August 2026 with possibility of extension. 

Responsibilities include teaching, scholarly activities, and service. The new faculty will assist in the undergraduate programs in AI and Applied AI (minors) and in the General Education Program (introductory required courses). 

We seek talented instructors and innovative scholars in the area of AI/Computational Linguistics who can teach some or all of the following undergraduate courses: Artificial Intelligence, Applied AI for Human and Social Sciences, Digital and AI Fundamentals, Natural Language Processing, Logic of Language, Text Data Technology, Human-Computer Interaction, etc. 

We seek an innovative faculty member to teach and develop courses in Applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) and to facilitate KIMEP's strategic initiative of integrating AI tools and methods into business, economics, social sciences, education, and the humanities. The chosen candidate will possess subject-matter knowledge combined with the ability to work across disciplines. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in Applied AI (e.g., Machine Learning, AI for Business, AI in Education, Data Analytics, and related areas).
  • Collaborate with other colleges (Business, Social Sciences, Education, Humanities) to integrate AI concepts within their curricula.
  • Develop and supervise interdisciplinary AI-focused projects, case studies, and student research.
  • Conduct applied research in AI, with an emphasis on real-world applications.
  • Contribute to the design of new AI-related programs, minors, and certifications aligned with KIMEP’s strategic vision.
  • Participate in curriculum development, and outreach activities (AI bootcamps, workshops, hackathons).
  • Support faculty development initiatives by helping train non-CS faculty to use AI tools in their disciplines. 

Minimum Qualifications 

Expertise is desired in the following areas: AI, Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning or related field. Demonstrated teaching excellence in AI-related courses at the university level. Strong publication record or evidence of applied research in AI. Ability to collaborate across disciplines and integrate AI concepts into non-technical domains.   

Applicants for professorial position should have:

Required:

  • A doctorate degree in a relevant field from an internationally-recognized, accredited university;
  • At least 3-5 years of teaching experience in reputable universities;
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines and integrate AI concepts into non-technical domains.
  • Prior research publications or clear evidence of research potential;

Preferred:

  • Prior involvement in curriculum development and accreditation processes (e.g., ABET, FIBAA).
  • Experience supervising student projects and research in applied AI.
  • Industry experience would also be viewed favorably.

Applicants for senior lecturer position should have:

Required:

  • A master’s degree in a relevant field from an internationally-recognized, accredited university;
  • At least 2 years of teaching experience in reputable universities.
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines and integrate AI concepts into non-technical domains.

Preferred:

  • Prior involvement in curriculum development and accreditation processes (e.g., ABET, FIBAA).
  • Experience supervising student projects and research in applied AI.
  • Industry experience would also be viewed favorably.

For all instructors experience with course design and teaching pedagogy is strongly desired. Knowledge of local languages, Kazakh and Russian, is welcomed. 

ABD’s will be considered who meet the position qualifications and include in their application materials a letter from the dissertation chair confirming defense date prior to the position’s start date.

Compensation

Rank and salary are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Compensation after ­tax compares favorably with net salaries in western countries.

Limited on campus housing is available to rent, or alternatively, help is available in finding off campus housing. In addition to salary, a benefit package includes basic healthcare insurance, reduced tuition rates for KIMEP courses, and subsidy for relocation allowance. New faculty members are provided with a reduced teaching schedule during the first semester. Summer paid teaching is typically available. 

The salary will be subject to deduction of taxes (10% Personal Income tax in general) as required by the Law of Kazakhstan.
