The University of Westminster is looking to recruit an experienced Widening Access Manager to join the UK Student Recruitment and Outreach Team. This is a leadership role within the Student Recruitment and Outreach Team and will require the line management of the Widening Access Officer.
This role is critical to the successful delivery of the University’s Access and Participation Plan (APP), with a specific focus on meeting the access targets contained within the APP. The Widening Access Manager will be responsible for the strategic planning, delivery and evaluation of programmes of activity which will engage students from a range of backgrounds who may have faced multiple barriers to accessing higher education.
The Widening Access Manger will have institutional responsibility as an operational lead for the access related activity streams in the APP. Therefore, they will be required to attend working groups related to the delivery of the APP, and they may also need to contribute to other groups across the University when an expert on widening access is required to input. Furthermore, active participation with professional sector groups and bodies is encouraged so that best practice is shared with the University and external opportunities are not missed.
The role holder will also take responsibility as the primary point of contact for recording, monitoring and tracking access interventions. The University is exploring the procurement of HEAT for this purpose and should this go ahead the role holder will be the primary contact for HEAT (or an alternative platform).
The University of Westminster is comprised of three academic Colleges. Due to the current access objectives, this role will work more closely with academic colleagues in the College of Design, Creative and Digital Innovation (DCDI), therefore a familiarity with related subjects would be a benefit. However, the role holder will be expected to engage with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) and Westminster Business School (WBS) and therefore a broad understanding of academic institutions is required.
