Description of Post

This Senior Management position (Fixed term contract until 31 August 2030) requires a combination of high academic achievement with substantial relevant experience.  The position will require significant organisational, leadership and communication skills.

The Faculty of Engineering and Computing is the largest faculty within ATU and is of strategic importance within ATU and the wider region. The School of Engineering Apprenticeships, its staff, students and graduates play a huge role in the economic growth of the region, supporting large and small companies, as well as the start-up sector. The School has the potential to forge significant interdisciplinary linkages within and external to ATU, in terms of innovative teaching and learning opportunities, excellent research and knowledge transfer, and strong enterprise engagement. 

The Head of School of Engineering Apprenticeships will be responsible for the overall strategic direction and continued development of the School, with a strong commitment to excellence. Particular emphasis will be placed on craft apprenticeships, inter-disciplinary programmes, university-industry linkages, international activities, and flexible modes of delivery.

The Head of School of Engineering Apprenticeships will report to the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Computing.

Essential Qualifications

• An Honours degree (2.2 or higher) in a relevant Level 8 degree programme [as specified in the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ)], or equivalent.
• Minimum of five years relevant post-qualification experience. This experience will normally be in industry, research or in appropriate third-level education, or a combination of these.
