About the role
The History Department at the University of Sussex is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor in Modern History, for a fixed term position.
You will contribute to a range of modules in nineteenth- and twentieth-century History. You will deliver lectures, seminars and dissertation supervision, support students, and engage in marking and assessment.
You will join an innovative and collegial History Department with a strong commitment to interdisciplinary study and to global and comparative approaches to historical enquiry. We were ranked 4th for Impact in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework.
About you
You will hold a PhD in some aspect of Modern History. Expertise in one or more of the following fields will be a distinct advantage for this position: history of science, history of emotions, global and connected histories. You will have an emerging publication profile, teaching experience in the UK HE sector, good communication skills and a demonstrable capacity for supporting students. Experience of the supervision of undergraduate dissertations is desirable.
An ability to work productively as part of a friendly, team-oriented Department is an essential skill for this role.
