Assistant Professor in Modern History

About the role

The History Department at the University of Sussex is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor in Modern History, for a fixed term position.

You will contribute to a range of modules in nineteenth- and twentieth-century History. You will deliver lectures, seminars and dissertation supervision, support students, and engage in marking and assessment. 

You will join an innovative and collegial History Department with a strong commitment to interdisciplinary study and to global and comparative approaches to historical enquiry. We were ranked 4^th for Impact in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework.

About you

You will hold a PhD in some aspect of Modern History. Expertise in one or more of the following fields will be a distinct advantage for this position: history of science, history of emotions, global and connected histories.  You will have an emerging publication profile, teaching experience in the UK HE sector, good communication skills and a demonstrable capacity for supporting students. Experience of the supervision of undergraduate dissertations is desirable. 

An ability to work productively as part of a friendly, team-oriented Department is an essential skill for this role.
