The role:

As a Facilities Management Assistant, you will provide a comprehensive range of facilities management services across the University Library. Working closely with the FM team, you will help ensure the building remains safe, secure, and well-maintained, particularly during the evening wind-down period.

As Facilities Management Assistant-General Works, you will:

  • Walk set routes through the library to check its condition and react quickly to any issues.
  • Assist with minor maintenance or making areas safe when necessary.
  • Cover entry and exit gates (Staff Entrance or Front Entrance), acting as a welcoming and professional first/last point of contact for staff and visitors.
  • Support building evacuations and emergency procedures when required.
  • Undertaking portering tasks and light lifting as part of the wider FM service.

What we are looking for:

  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Is proactive, reliable, and approachable.
  • Can remain calm and professional in both routine and emergency situations.
  • Is physically able to undertake walking routes, stairs, and light lifting.
  • Has basic maintenance or facilities knowledge (desirable but not essential as training will be provided).
