The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Agribusiness to join the Veterinary Epidemiology, Economics and Public Health (VEEPH) Group in the Department of Pathobiology and Population Sciences. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to both education and research at the interface of food systems and veterinary sciences.
The postholder will be responsible for developing, refining, and delivering education in business and enterprise skills relevant to businesses in agriculture, biosciences, and veterinary practice at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. They will work closely with the VEEPH Group and colleagues in the department to conduct research in livestock food systems and agrifood systems using interdisciplinary and integrated approaches. The role also involves contributing actively to grant acquisition to strengthen the RVC’s reputation and expertise in interdisciplinary food systems research. In addition, the postholder will engage with departmental and RVC activities, represent the RVC externally, and enhance the institution’s overall academic and professional profile.
We are seeking a candidate with a strong research background in ecological or environmental economics, agricultural economics, food systems, political economy, or related fields and experience in interdisciplinary research, ideally applied to livestock food systems or agrifood value chains. The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to teach and inspire students in business skills relevant to veterinary, agribusiness and One Health careers, alongside a developing track record of research publications and an interest in grant development. Excellent communication, teamwork, and stakeholder engagement skills are essential, including the ability to work effectively with collaborators in the UK and internationally.
The successful applicant will be based within the VEEPH Group, an internationally recognised hub of expertise in Veterinary Epidemiology, Economics and Public Health in the Department of Pathobiology and Population Sciences. The group has a comprehensive portfolio of epidemiology, economics, risk analysis, surveillance, and public and One Health approaches, with applications across Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, & globally. We are looking for someone who can complement the group’s portfolio by for example bringing in social science or environmental expertise to One Health, systems thinking, and sustainable livestock food systems. You will join a dynamic & collaborative environment that values innovation in teaching, interdisciplinary research, & global impact.
This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and creative academic to develop expertise in agribusiness and food systems research, while contributing to the education of the next generation of veterinary science and One Health professionals.
