Are you practical, approachable and passionate about supporting students in their learning? Join Technical Operations, Resources and Services (TORS) and play a key role in delivering high-quality technical support across Sheffield Hallam University’s three campuses.

As an Assistant Technician, you’ll work closely with Technicians and other University staff to provide hands-on support in a range of technical environments. This is a student-facing role, where your friendly, professional manner will help create a welcoming and supportive learning experience for our students.

Your primary deployment will be in the Psychology Resource Centre, where you’ll provide day-to-day technical support and guidance to students and staff and will include the issuing of equipment. This will be the main focus of your role during the first year, giving you the chance to build confidence and expertise in a busy and dynamic environment.

As part of your development, you’ll also be deployed and gain experience in other areas of TORS, including workshops, engineering spaces, laboratories, health facilities, and other specialist resource centres and stores as well as research areas. Discipline-specific training will be provided to help you build the skills you need to thrive across these areas.

Once you’ve completed your initial training and development, your role will become more flexible and responsive to the wider needs of the directorate — which may include full-time or ad-hoc deployment to other technical areas as business needs evolve.
