Exeter College (part of the University of Oxford) seeks to appoint a Deputy Librarian. This is an exciting time to join the College, as we have recently refurbished our Library facilities; in addition to this being a varied and challenging role, therefore, the postholder will work in a modern, purpose-built environment with the possibility to work on a number of ongoing projects.
The role itself is part of a small and friendly Library and Archives team, and is based in our Turl Street site in central Oxford. On a day-to-day basis, you will be responsible for all aspects of managing and developing our reader services, together with overseeing our circulations and loans, and processing acquisitions and donations. You will also oversee the work of our Library Assistants, and will play an active role in contributing content to our online and social media platforms.
We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal skills, who is well organised and comfortable working on their own initiative. Strong attention to detail is a must, as is an adaptable and flexible approach, and a good level of proficiency in library management systems and online journals/ databases. You should also have reader services experience, preferably in an academic library, together with experience of cataloguing and classification (using MARC, AACR2, and RDA).
As well as a good first degree or equivalent, candidates will ideally have a professional library qualification (completed, or in progress), or significant professional experience working in a library. A working knowledge of ALMA would be an advantage, but is not essential.
Salary will be on Grade 6 of the University’s salary scale (currently £35,681 - £41,636 per annum), depending on experience, skills and qualifications. In addition, the College offers a range of benefits including a generous annual leave allowance, contributory pension scheme, and access to discounted healthcare and dental schemes.
