Postdoctoral Research Associate in Vascular and Immune Ageing

Queen Mary University of London - William Harvey Research Institute

Location: London
Salary: £38,419 to £44,288 per annum, depending on experience, and inclusive of the London allowance.
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 3rd November 2025
Closes: 18th November 2025
Job Ref: 8039

About the Role
Applications are invited for a British Heart Foundation-funded Postdoctoral Research Associate post to join the laboratory of Dr Loïc Rolas within the Centre for Microvascular Research. This is a unique opportunity for enthusiastic early-career researchers to contribute to an emerging team that has already made important scientific impacts, advancing understanding of the complex relationship between vascular ageing and immune cells. Building on significant recent findings from the PI (e.g. Rolas et al., EMBO R 2024; Barkaway, Rolas et al., Immunity 2021), the project aims to enhance understanding of the role of endothelial cell senescence in dysregulation of the immune response to various inflammatory insults. The proposed project holds significant pathophysiological relevance in ageing and cardiovascular diseases, with clear potential for publication in 2026.

About You
We are seeking an outstanding, driven junior researcher with a clear commitment to a scientific career. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • A PhD (or near completion) in a relevant field such as inflammation, ageing, or vascular biology.
  • Proven proficiency in murine in vivo techniques, including injections, tissue sampling, and colony management.
  • Expertise in confocal microscopy and associated analysis platforms (e.g., Imaris, ImageJ).
  • Solid experience in mammalian cell culture.
  • A collaborative mindset, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

About the School/Department/Institute/Project
Located at the Charterhouse Square Campus, the Centre for Microvascular Research is an internationally respected hub of vascular and inflammation research. It offers newly refurbished laboratories and a cutting-edge microscopy facility, making it ideal for high-impact research. The Charterhouse Square Campus is in the heart of the City of London and is close to the Barbican Art and Music Centre and St Paul’s Cathedral.
