The Centre is part of an interdisciplinary campus devoted to AI and its applications. It is located within Imperial’s Translation and Innovation Hub (I-HUB) and is co-located with AI academics from across Imperial’s departments and faculties. The I-X Centre for AI in Science supported by Schmidt Science supports over 130 years of prestigious independent and original research by fellows using AI to advance science.

The Schmidt Sciences grant runs for 7 years with up to 38 fellows hosted in any year. Critically it has a strong aspect of training fellows from diverse backgrounds in topics in AI. You will have a key role in enhancing and supporting the research and training of the I-X Centre for AI in Science Fellows.

What you would be doing:

You will:

  • Develop and support fellows one-to-one with individual AI training plans including curating materials for the fellows to help them reach their learning goals, and helping them identify AI solutions to their challenges
  • Stay up to date with the latest research in AI including conference attendance.
  • Academically co-ordinate the annual ‘Breaking Topics in AI’ conference
  • Organize the courses run through the I-X Centre for AI in Science
  • Develop, design and oversee the courses connected to technical AI learning of the fellows at the Centre. This has a strong peer-to-peer focus for cohort building and as a pedagogical tool.

  • Organize the filming and upload of the minicourses and coordinate sharing of teaching materials with other Schmidt Sciences Centres.
  • Undertake course administration duties, such as organisation of teaching activities, development of online materials, coordination of internal/visiting lecturers, attendance records, Health & Safety matters, etc.
  • Undertake teaching, including lectures and academic tutorials, using appropriate teaching, learning support and assessment methods.
  • Provide courses on best practices in education and organise the teaching of mini lecture courses at AIMS. This includes running workshops on how to develop intended learning outcomes or assessments, curating teaching materials and building a library of material for the fellows to assess.
  • Participate in, and contribute to, the induction and pre-acceleration events, including the preparation of the preinduction welcome pack

What we are looking for:

Candidates will:

  • Hold a PhD (or equivalent) in an appropriate AI discipline.
  • Have experience in AI teaching

We understand AI very broadly – and adequate experience would include most topics in modern statistics and topics like Bayesian Machine Learning and Simulation Based Inference (a past research focus on neural network architectures is not a prerequisite): many data driven computational approaches are thus within the AI category.

What we can offer you:

This is a full time, fixed term position for 4 years. You will be based at White City Campus and become part of a team that driving the research of a cohort of top scholars based in the I-X Centre for AI in Science.
