We are excited to invite applications for a Senior Technician to support our activities within the Wood Digital and Metals Fabrication facility
About the role
As a valued member of our team, you will play a key role in the ongoing development of the wood manufacture and production areas within the high-profile wood digital and metal fabrication facility , located in the Babbage Building.
Reporting to the School Technical Manager, you will be a vital member of the team. A significant part of this role will involve close collaboration with all faculty stakeholders, as well as external and wider university colleagues.

Due to the nature of the role, unfortunately we are unable to accommodate working from home.
This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week on a permanent basis.

What we’re looking for
We are actively seeking candidates from diverse technical backgrounds. We particularly value candidates holding qualifications equivalent to an HND, a Degree, NVQ4, or similar, complemented by relevant practical experience. Hands-on experience in any of the following areas is mandatory: Woodwork and machining including planer thicknesser, dimension saw, router table, widebelt sander and wood lathe; hand tools and processes, including surfacing, cutting, joining, in the shaping of wood and wood composite material, Health and Safety,and Risk Assessment. Current qualifications and experience are required. Some CAD design in a range of packages, 3D printing in a range of formats, and CNC on a range of 2D/3D small, medium, and large machine types and materials (Wood/Metal and Plastic) is very welcome.

Additionally, the role involves assisting undergraduates, postgraduates, and researchers in this domain; thus, strong communication and mentoring skills are essential.
