The Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics (JBCA) invites applications for two Research Associates in cosmology. Both positions will be focused on the combination of the Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) and the Simons Observatory (SO), two surveys the JBCA is heavily involved in. One post will be centered on developing simulation-based inference methods for the joint analysis of galaxy cluster number counts from SO and Weak Lensing from LSST, and the application of these methods to early data from both surveys. The second post will be focused on the combination of galaxy clustering and CMB lensing power- and bispectra to constrain primordial non-Gaussianity from a joint analysis of SO and LSST.

You will work in the research group led by Andrina Nicola and the wider cosmology community at JBCA, in particular the groups led by Prof. Richard Battye, Prof. Michael Brown, Prof. Jens Chluba, and Prof. Scott Kay.

Both positions will be for 3.5 years (42 months) and the ideal start date will be Summer 2026, or anytime earlier.

You must have a PhD in astrophysics, physics or a related field by the time the appointment starts. You should submit, in a single PDF: a curriculum vitae, a publication list, and a statement of research experience and interests (maximum three pages, not including references), and indicate which of the two positions you would like to be considered for. You should also arrange for three letters of recommendation, to be submitted directly by the writers.

What you will get in return:

  • Fantastic market leading Pension scheme
  • Excellent employee health and wellbeing services including an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Exceptional starting annual leave entitlement, plus bank holidays
  • Additional paid closure over the Christmas period
  • Local and national discounts at a range of major retailers

As an equal opportunities employer we support an inclusive working environment and welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender expression, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation and transgender status.
