We are looking for a Chief Operating Officer (Divisional Registrar) to join the leadership of the Social Sciences Division to make a significant contribution to the success of one of the largest groupings of social scientists in the world. Accountable to the University Registrar and the Head of Division, the postholder will have overall responsibility for the strategic, operational and financial management of the division, made up of fifteen departments, and for leadership of the divisional team. The appointee will also sit on the Registrar’s Senior Leadership Team.
They will provide operational leadership and management advice to the Head of Division, and support him in providing academic leadership of the division’s departments and contributing effectively to governance and decision making at University level.
To be successful at the shortlisting stage you will have extensive experience of working at a senior management level in higher education, public sector or closely-related environment. You will be an outstanding leader and manager, with a creative and proactive approach to enabling the division’s strategic objectives. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as are strong diplomatic skills and the ability to manage multiple stakeholder groups and to plan clearly and strategically in a complex environment. You will need to evidence strategic, financial and/or administrative planning in a large and complex organisation, as well as a track record of working across a wide range of functions. Proven staff management and leadership experience and ability are essential. You will have excellent analytical skills, demonstrable agility and flexibility of thought, and the ability to approach complex scenarios with a logical, analytical and structured response, as well as the ability to see the bigger picture without losing sight of the detail.
