Technician (Digital and Creative)

The role

In this role, you’ll provide technical support in the Creative Workshops team, within Digital and Creative.

We’re looking for an individual who can work flexibly across our specialist workshop facilities, as you’ll be working primarily within the General Workshops, but may be required to support students within Fine Metals Workshop, Ceramics and Casting and Foundry facilities.

As a team, we also support a varied gallery and exhibition programme with support required at critical points throughout the year, particularly as we progress towards of end of year degree shows as part of the Festival of Creativity.

You’ll have excellent communication skills and an enthusiasm to work collaboratively with local workshop teams. One of the fundamental aspects of this role is to carry out demonstrations and inductions on a range of equipment and to provide technical support and knowledge to students studying on a vibrant mix of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Although you may not have experience and knowledge in all these areas, we are looking for someone who is:

• Enthusiastic and confident in supporting students across a vibrant mix of undergraduate and postgraduate courses
• Self-motivated with a good attention to detail and a commitment to delivering a high-quality service
• Looking to develop new skills through hands-on training
• Able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills

The department

TORS is made up of highly qualified, specialist and experienced members of staff. We provide support to a vast and diverse range of teaching, research and commercial activities across the University. TORS staff work closely with other University services such as Health and Safety, Finance and Estates. Our role is to ensure that specialist spaces are fully accessible and add value to the student experience.
