This post is full time (35 hours per week) and has funding until 31st August 2027 in the first instance.
This project involves working under the supervision of Professor Jon Cooper, the successful candidate will contribute to a project focusing on combining spatially offset and stand-off Raman systems incorporating a ps pulsed laser and an advanced time gated array detector for applications in non-contact/non-invasive healthcare monitoring. Example applications of healthcare applications include assessment of osteoporosis, identification of bone fractures and diagnosis of melanomas. The project particularly emphasizes the development of robust instrumentation that is not confined to use in a laboratory such as a non-Czerny-Turner spectrometer and may include other remote and digital health based sensing techniques as aids to diagnostics.
The project requires experience with developing optical systems involving lasers and conventional optical components, tailored software interfaces and other laboratory equipment for data collection (evidence of research experience in these areas is essential). The successful candidate will be able to contribute to the formulation and submission of research publications and have the opportunity to develop further research funding proposals.
