The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at the University of Hull is seeking an experienced Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy to lead the development of an exciting new BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy programme and associated Apprenticeship course. This is a unique opportunity to shape and deliver a pioneering programme that will have a lasting impact on students, the profession, and the wider community.
Hull was recently named one of National Geographic’s top 25 global destinations to visit in 2026, offering a charming, historic and welcoming environment for work and life. Join us in shaping the future of occupational therapy education in this inspiring city.
About the Role
As Senior Lecturer, you will take a lead role in designing, developing, and delivering a new undergraduate and apprenticeship curriculum in Occupational Therapy. You will work closely with colleagues across the Faculty and external stakeholders to ensure the programme meets the standards of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and gains approval from relevant professional bodies.
The programme will combine academic excellence with diverse practice-based learning experiences, preparing students to become confident, compassionate, and competent occupational therapists. You will play a key role in embedding practice-based learning into the curriculum and fostering strong relationships with health and social care providers across the region.
Supportive Working Environment
The Faculty of Health Sciences is a well-established centre for healthcare education, research, and scholarly activity. Based on the University’s Cottingham campus, the Faculty works in close partnership with local providers to deliver innovative programmes that enhance workforce capability and improve patient care.
You will be based within the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences (SERS), a thriving academic community of around 30 staff and over 400 students. Supported by dedicated technical staff and state-of-the-art facilities, SERS offers an outstanding environment for teaching, learning, and research. New staff are welcomed into a collegial and inclusive culture, with access to mentoring, professional development, and opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.
Research and Scholarship
We welcome applicants with a strong interest in research and scholarly activity. Whether you are an established researcher or developing your academic profile, you will be supported to pursue your interests and contribute to the Faculty’s growing research portfolio. Areas of current research include rehabilitation, health, and elite sports performance, but we are open to diverse specialisms.
You will have the opportunity to supervise student research projects, collaborate on funded studies, and disseminate your work through publications and conferences. The Faculty is committed to supporting research through internal networks, grant development workshops, and knowledge exchange initiatives.
Who We’re Looking For
You will be a qualified occupational therapist with HCPC registration and experience in clinical practice and/or higher education. A postgraduate qualification and a commitment to evidence-based practice are essential. If you do not already hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education, you will be supported to complete one upon appointment.
Both full-time and part-time applications are welcome. If you are passionate about occupational therapy education and leadership, and ready to make a meaningful contribution to a forward-thinking academic community, we would love to hear from you. Please reach out to Dr Alex Bullock, Head of Allied Health at a.bullock@hull.ac.uk with any questions, or for an informal discussion.
