Lecturer in Physiotherapy

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Lecturer in Physiotherapy to join our dynamic academic team at the University of Hull. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate educator and researcher to contribute to the development of future physiotherapists within a supportive and forward-thinking environment.

Hull was recently named one of National Geographic’s top 25 global destinations to visit in 2026, offering a charming, historic and welcoming environment for work and life. Join us in shaping the future of occupational therapy education in this inspiring city.

About the Role

As a Lecturer in Physiotherapy, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality teaching across our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. You will be actively involved in curriculum development, student supervision, and assessment, with a particular emphasis on supporting students during their clinical placements. Your guidance will help students integrate theoretical knowledge with practical skills, ensuring they are well-prepared for professional practice.

Our practice-based learning is a cornerstone of our physiotherapy education, and we pride ourselves on strong partnerships with healthcare providers across the region. You will work closely with placement coordinators and clinical educators to ensure students receive a rich and varied experience, and you will be a key point of contact for both students and placement partners.

Supportive Working Environment

We are committed to fostering a collaborative and inclusive workplace where staff are supported to thrive. You will join a team of experienced academics and clinicians who value collegiality, innovation, and continuous professional development. New staff are welcomed into a mentoring culture, with opportunities for peer support and mentoring, teaching development, and research collaboration.

Research and Scholarship

We welcome applicants with a strong interest in research and scholarly activity. Whether you are an early-career researcher or have an established portfolio, you will be encouraged to pursue your interests and contribute to the department’s growing research profile. Areas of current research include musculoskeletal rehabilitation, neurological physiotherapy, and compassionate pedagogy, but we are open to diverse specialisms. You will have the opportunity to supervise student research projects, collaborate with colleagues, and publish in peer-reviewed journals. Our research culture is inclusive and supportive, with regular seminars, writing retreats, and grant development workshops.

Who We’re Looking For

You will be a qualified physiotherapist with HCPC registration and experience in clinical practice. Teaching experience in higher education is desirable but not essential, as we offer support for those transitioning from clinical roles. A postgraduate qualification (or working towards one) and a commitment to research and evidence-based practice are essential.

If you are passionate about physiotherapy education, enjoy working collaboratively, and are keen to make a meaningful impact on student learning and professional development, we would love to hear from you. Please reach out to Dr Alex Bullock, Head of Allied Health at a.bullock@hull.ac.uk with any questions, or for an informal discussion.
