About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity to work as a Research Clinical Psychologist taking primary responsibility for a research project in the areas of workforce evaluation, planning and strategy, including pathways into the profession of clinical psychology. This work is commissioned by the Board of the Clearing House for Postgraduate Courses in Clinical Psychology, whose strategy includes promoting the profession of clinical psychology, and your work will be broadly encompassed within this remit. You will lead this research, under guidance, and have the flexibility to develop the research questions which will be used to inform the training community, applicants to clinical psychology and NHS commissioners and contribute to longer term workforce strategy. There will be opportunities to develop skills and experience in leadership and consultation.

The work will be undertaken through the evaluation of existing data held by the Clearing House, collection of new data from recent clinical psychology graduates and from training programmes. There will be a Steering Group which will lead the strategy of this work, constituted of senior stakeholders. The postholder will lead stakeholder meetings with senior members of the training community and commissioners to work in consultation to discuss and shape research questions and then to disseminate work and findings.  You will also join the Clearing House Board in capacity of a research lead.

This role is an excellent opportunity for an early career postdoctoral researcher interested in developing research experience into workforce development and strategy within the field of clinical psychology. You will manage and supervise a full-time research assistant who will be working alongside you to undertake this research, consultation and dissemination. You will develop a communication strategy to engage with the various stakeholder groups and when ready to disseminate and publish the findings.

This is a part time post (60% FTE), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 24 months. There is the potential to develop a PhD through this work.

As the post is part time, the salary displayed in this advert will be amended accordingly (pro rata).

About you:

Essential criteria

  • Doctoral level professional qualification in Clinical Psychology (e.g. DClinPsy) or PhD in relevant discipline
  • Undertaking and publishing research relevant to clinical psychology, in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Excellent attention to detail in communication, data management and reporting results.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, evidence of experience in consultation, communication and engagement with stakeholder groups.
  • Experience of collaborative research, supporting a wider team to achieve their goals
  • Skills and experience in leadership, project management and strategy implementation.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working with large data sets 
  • Experience of developing communication strategy
  • Experience of working within a stakeholder group relevant to this research e.g. clinical psychology training programme or NHS commissioner.
