Salary: Salary on scale within the range £58,265 to £77,645 p.a., plus a College housing allowance of £14,677 p.a. An additional allowance of £3,199 is payable upon award of Recognition of Distinction (i.e. the title of Professor).

Start Date: 1 October 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter)

 Balliol College and the Faculty of History at the University of Oxford are seeking to recruit a Tutorial Fellow in History and Associate Professor of Modern European History effective from 1 October 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter).

The successful candidate will have a research specialism focussed on the period 1870-1945 but with the ability to teach widely across the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

On appointment, the successful candidate will be a Tutorial Fellow in History at Balliol and a member of the Faculty of History. They will be part of a lively and intellectually stimulating research community which publishes at the highest international levels, and they will have access to the excellent research facilities that Oxford offers. The appointee will have, or be on the way to establishing, a record of internationally recognised research and will be required to provide a high standard of research-led teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including the supervision of research students.
