The Department of Geography (incorporating the Scott Polar Research Institute - SPRI), based across two central Cambridge sites (Downing Place and Lensfield Road), is seeking a highly motivated and professional Accounts Assistant to join our Accounts Office team. The team is responsible for all procurement and accounts processing within the Department of Geography, as well as providing support to the single Senior Accounts Clerk at SPRI.
The successful candidate will be educated to GCSE level/NVQ level 2 or possess equivalent practical experience. Experience in an administrative role is essential, along with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. You will have good communication skills, strong accuracy and attention to detail and demonstrate knowledge of facts, principles, processes and general concepts related to Finance / Accounts. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word/Outlook/Excel) is essential.
You will work collaboratively as part of the Accounts Office team to ensure the efficient and effective operation of financial processes in the Department. You will act as the first point of contact for departmental purchasing, liaising with budget-holders and suppliers and raising purchase orders. You will be expected to work proactively with academics, researchers, and departmental staff, building strong and effective working relationships to ensure the smooth running of accounts operations.
The role also provides accounts payable and receivable administration, as well as supporting month- and year-end processes, including the annual P11D return. You will perform general administrative duties, such as maintaining accurate filing systems, archiving, and assisting with other accounting tasks that support the work of the Accounts Office.
You will also have the opportunity to contribute to continuous improvements within the Department's accounts office administration, bringing ineffective processes to the attention of the Accounts Office Manager.
