Research Associate

We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate to make a leading contribution to the project ‘Identifying drivers of schistosomiasis treatment failure and recommendations for treatment strategies (DRIVERS)’ working with Professor Poppy Lamberton, and a wider international team from Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Malawi and the UK.

The successful candidate will specifically lead the research into quantifying individual level factors which are driving poor treatment efficacy and rapid re-infection. They will work closely alongside a PDRA, leading research on community level factors driving maintained transmission. In particular, this successful candidate will oversee individual level factors such as hybrid parasite species, immunology, coinfection, drug absorption, metabolism, and host behaviour. It is not expected that the successful candidate will undertake all of these aspects, but in discussion with the team, they will take a lead in more focused work on one or two of these aspects and in the over-arching analyses of the combination of factors.

People with expertise in pharmacokinetics are particular encouraged to apply. This position will include working with international partners and performing field work and training in Côte d’Ivoire and Malawi, collecting data and being involved in the laboratory processing and statistical analyses.

The postholder will be required to make a leading contribution to the formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals as well as make a significant contribution to the management and direction of this complex and challenging project as opportunities allow and planning and applying for multinational intervention trial applications towards the end of the project.
