This is an exciting opportunity to join a Wellcome Trust-funded research project led by Dr Jamie Wheeler that aims to resolve how the “high priority” (WHO) bacterial pathogen *P. aeruginosa* responds to antibiotics. Our lab focusses on biofilm formation and surface-based motility in *P. aeruginosa* and we employ a highly interdisciplinary approach that combines microscopy, microfluidics, cell-tracking and molecular microbiology. We recently found that *P. aeruginosa* cells within developing biofilms migrate towards – rather than away from – antibiotics. This postdoctoral position aims to resolve the evolutionary, physiological and clinical consequences and drivers of this paradoxical behaviour
You should have a PhD in a relevant discipline and an eagerness and ability to undertake interdisciplinary, collaborative research that combines lab-based experiments with large-scale data handling and analysis.
The post is available for up to 25 months in the first instance with a preferred start date of July/ August 2026, but the exact start date is flexible.
For more information about the details of the project, please email Dr Jamie Wheeler, email: j.h.wheeler@liverpool.ac.uk.
If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.
