We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Senior Postdoctoral Researcher to join a newly established research group led by Dr Abdullah Khan. The Group engineer complex human models to dissect how cell-to-cell and cross-tissue interactions shape health and disease. By recreating specialised microenvironments – from bone marrow to cardiac tissue – we study how ageing and disease can drive changes in these niches. Our goal is to ultimately use these approaches as translational tools to identify new therapies and validate them in relevant, human pre-clinical platforms.
Working closely with Dr Khan, you will be responsible for planning and managing your own research project, developing research questions within the context of research in the lab, in the area of modelling immune cell crosstalk between multiple organoid models. You will contribute intellectually to the development of the research and help shape the wider research programme. Responsibilities will also include helping with the supervision and coaching of other members of the team, shaping the research group’s plan and the writing of group-funding applications for new projects.
You will hold a PhD/DPhil in the life sciences with post-qualification research experience. You will have experience in generating and applying 3D human organoid models of multiple tissues, including the bone marrow and heart. A broad background in molecular biology and immunology techniques is essential, with an ability to manage your own research with experience in supervising staff and applying for funding. Excellent communication skills, a strong publication record, and an interest in translational research are essential.
The post is available on a full-time basis and is fixed-term for 4 years, funded by Wellcome.
Applications for this vacancy should be made online and you will need to upload a supporting statement and CV. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience. Please restrict your documentation to your CV and supporting statement only. Any other documents will be requested at a later date.
The closing date for this position is noon on 8 December. Interviews to be held Tuesday 16 December 2025.
