The University of Bristol Law School is a leading UK law school with an international reputation for outstanding teaching and research. Ranked 3rd in the Times Higher Education analysis of legal research in REF2021, the Law School is home to a diverse and inclusive academic community which aspires to the highest standards in legal education and research. Housed in the iconic Wills Memorial Building with additional premises close by in elegant Berkeley Square, the University of Bristol Law School represents a unique blend of tradition and innovation, offering an educational experience which challenges and empowers students and a research environment in which academic originality and excellence flourish. The successful applicant will contribute fully to the life of the School and Faculty through teaching on our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, as well as supervising research students, and producing high quality research leading to publications and, where possible, impact beyond the academy.
What will you be doing?
The School seeks to recruit a Senior Lecturer in Law who combines a strong research record with the proven ability to deliver the highest standards of legal education to join our thriving academic community. Embracing excellence in all its forms, the School welcomes applications from those with relevant experience of effective teaching and research in the area of Intellectual Property Law (broadly defined, and encompassing innovation and regulation within the field). The successful candidate will also be expected to offer the ability to teach at least one related foundational subject and, where possible, contribute towards teaching in Information Technology Law or Company Law.
You should apply if
You should have research and/or teaching expertise in the area of Intellectual Property Law (broadly defined) and at least one of the foundational legal subjects. An ability to contribute towards teaching in Information Technology Law or Company Law will be an advantage. You should have a completed PhD in law or equivalent, and have a strong honours degree at undergraduate level in law or a law-related subject or equivalent. You should also have strong track record of published research of 3* or 4* quality measured by REF2021 standards; as well as a planned trajectory of high-quality publications over a significant period; experience of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, or equivalent practical experience; evidence of broad knowledge and deep expertise in your area(s) of scholarship; demonstrable ability to carry out academic administrative duties effectively; and excellent written and oral communication skills, including an ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and accessibly.
The post is available from 3rd August 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post available is full-time; however, the School is open to requests for part-time working.
