About the role

The SalGo Team (https://salgo.web.ox.ac.uk/) at the University of Oxford’s Department of Biology seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the NERC Pushing the Frontiers project Integrating and Predicting Responses of Natural Systems to Disturbances.

About you

The successful candidate will develop and test new theoretical and computational frameworks linking population and community resilience. This task will involve integrating demographic models (e.g., structured population like matrix population models and/or integral projection models) with community stability analyses using, among others, pseudospectra theory, and empirical data from DRAGNet and global demographic databases (COMPADRE, COMADRE, PADRINO).

The project combines mathematical modelling, simulation, and empirical synthesis to understand how individual- and population-level responses scale up to determine community-level resilience. The PDRA will by physically based in Prof. Rob Salguero-Gómez’ lab, and collaborate closely with CoIs Prof. Andy Hector and Dr. Iain Stott, as well as key international partners Prof Tuljapurkar and Dr Barabás.

Applicants should hold (or be near completion of) a PhD/DPhil in ecology, theoretical biology, or a related field, with demonstrated experience in quantitative ecological modelling, community or population dynamics, and strong analytical and programming skills (R or Python).
