About the role

An exciting opportunity to shape Imperial College’s Faculty of Medicine research agenda as we seek a highly motivated individual to take up the post of Head of Research Strategy in our supportive Research Strategy Team.  Alongside the Faculty’s senior leadership, you will develop and implement the Faculty’s strategic research initiatives, coordinate major bids to funding bodies and take responsibility for deployment of Imperial’s internal funding to drive our research agenda.  

What you would be doing

As part of the dynamic and supportive research strategy team, you will:

  • Develop and implement strategic research initiatives within the Faculty, in partnership with the Director of Research Strategy and Vice Dean (Research)
  • Develop and coordinate major bids for research funding, including inputting strategic content, reviewing bids, and developing links with the relevant funders.
  • Develop and support coordination of clinical training programmes led by the Faculty of Medicine or in partnership with our Clinical Academic Training Office.
  • Develop links with funders and donors.
  • Managing relationships with the George Institute and the Francis Crick Institute
  • Identify and develop new research collaborations and funding opportunities in partnership with other Faculties, and in close collaboration with Strategic Research Managers.
  • Collaborate with the Office of the Vice Provost, Research and Enterprise, representing the Faculty of Medicine on cross-College initiatives.

What we are looking for

This is a senior position requiring:

  • Outstanding communication and strategic leadership skills coupled with diplomacy and tact. 
  • A PhD (or equivalent training) together with extensive experience working in research management, preferably in higher education, in a research funding body or commercial R&D facility.
  • Experience of working with senior academics to coordinate complex funding bids/reports.
  • A proven ability to manage multiple sets of deliverables whilst proactively identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • A strong team ethos and experience in managing others.
