About the Role
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in AI for Musculoskeletal Conditions for research into AI-based predictive systems to stratify patients, understand disease pathways, and recommend personalised treatment for musculoskeletal conditions. Key skills will include deep learning, convolutional neural networks and transformers, multimodal AI and fusion modelling. Imaging datatypes include ultrasound, x-ray, and whole-slide images with different stains. You would be part of a technical team working closely with research-active clinicians.
The post is funded by the NIHR Barts Biomedical Research Centre under the Precision Musculoskeletal Care Theme, aiming to improve healthcare delivery and patient outcomes for musculoskeletal conditions of particularly high burden in East London.
About You
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in a numerate field, be familiar with medical image analysis using deep learning methods, have experience with GitHub and relevant programming languages (Python), and be supported by high-quality publications.

The role will be based in the Digital Environment Research Institute (DERI), Queen Mary’s flagship University Research Institute dedicated to ground-breaking multi-disciplinary research in digital and data science, including artificial intelligence (AI). DERI offers an outstanding research environment including a dedicated physical space along with recently purchased high performance computing infrastructure to enable scientific breakthroughs. Further, DERI leads the University’s participation in The Alan Turing Institute, the UK national institute for data science and AI.
