The Careers and Employment Service are seeking a proactive candidate to join our innovative Career Development Team, to provide tailored support to students and graduates. We are a friendly, positive team focused on moving students forward in their career journey. We offer flexible work locations across our two campuses, including within our Careers Studio, which is designed to provide an informal and supportive student environment.
Main duties and responsibilities
The successful candidate will provide careers advice, guidance, information, and support to University of Hertfordshire students and recent graduates, helping them plan and progress in their career journeys.
You will be responsible for promoting, delivering, and encouraging student engagement in a range of activities designed to support career development. This will include delivering both one-to-one and group sessions, as well as contributing to projects that equip students and graduates with the skills, knowledge, and techniques needed to secure graduate-level employment or further study. You will also help them to reflect on and confidently articulate these skills to prospective employers.
The Career Development Consultant will contribute to enhancing the student experience by delivering activities that support the University’s strategic objectives, including improving performance in the Graduate Outcomes Survey and other key employability measures. You will also provide targeted support and interventions for underrepresented and disadvantaged groups, ensuring that all students at the University have access to high-quality employment opportunities, in line with the University’s Access and Participation Plan.
Skills and experience required
You should have experience in establishing and supporting effective relationships with students and graduates and /or employers in the context of graduate employment and work experience
You will be an excellent communicator with the ability to negotiate with and engage and enthuse others. You will also have experience in delivering innovative careers and employability support in a non-traditional delivery model.
Qualifications required
You will hold a minimum of a degree or equivalent, or with substantial relevant experience.
A recognised guidance qualification, e.g. DipCG, or recognised teaching qualification or relevant recruitment, HR, or staff development qualification or substantial experience in managing graduate transitions into employment (e.g. graduate recruitment or development) in a commercial environment is desirable.
