The Nuffield Department of Population Health undertakes world-leading research into long term, chronic health conditions, operating large-scale long-term studies and projects to identify the causes, prevention and treatment of diseases that result in avoidable suffering for millions of people around the world. The administrative teams are closely integrated within the department and work with all levels of staff who are committed to the research and teaching undertaken.
We are seeking an IT/AV Support Technician to provide frontline support to our large, research-focused department. We support more than 900 staff, students and visitors, over 1,000 devices, hundreds of Windows and Linux servers and petabyte-scale storage. Our research environment relies heavily on dependable IT systems, and this role is essential to keeping them running smoothly.
As an IT/AV Support Technician, you will provide first and second line support, resolving hardware and software issues for users via email, phone and in person. You will install and maintain desktop systems, investigate faults across operating systems and peripherals, and support AV equipment including video conferencing. You will also update documentation, help maintain the asset register and contribute to system improvements and project work. The role offers opportunities for training and career progression.
To succeed, you will need strong IT support skills, excellent troubleshooting ability and the confidence to explain technical information clearly to non-technical users. You should be organised, able to prioritise your workload and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
Experience in a customer-focused support environment, knowledge of ITIL processes and familiarity with Apple devices or mobile technologies are desirable. Previous experience in a university or research setting and relevant IT qualifications would also be an advantage.
This role is based in Oxford, and offered on a full-time basis. It is a fixed term post for 2 years in the first instance. This position is currently vacant, and we would like the successful candidate to start as soon as possible
The closing date for applications is noon on 06 January 2026.
You will be required to upload a CV and Supporting Statement as part of your online application. The Supporting Statement should include a cover letter and should also clearly describe how you meet each of the selection criteria listed in the job description.
