Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield
Main duties and responsibilities
You will be responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operations, co-ordination and delivery of technical support and technical support functions within the School of Creative Arts, assisting the Senior Technical Manager in the effective planning and management of resources to maximise their use and ensure the delivery of a high-quality student experience. You will also oversee expenditure on equipment, furniture, upgrades and Estates works through annual planning, upgrades and repairs, and maximising the effectiveness of the loan systems within the School.
You will continue to develop and implement a range of approaches for student acquisition of skills, employing learning and teaching practices for induction and training purposes and work closely with academic and research colleagues to ensure management of allocated workshop and studio areas and staffing levels meet the needs of the students and staff, operating within an agreed framework as stipulated by the Dean and guided by the SBU plan. You will undertake strategic and operational planning with the Senior Technical Manager, under the Deputy Dean’s guidance and in line with the SBU plan, to apply appropriate controls and monitoring related to resources and resource development of the School, improving student experience and value for money.
Skills and experience required
Proven experience of effective staff leadership and proven experience of management of technical facilities and a track record of success in understanding and supporting the facilities and services required for learning, teaching, research, university business and administration requirements is essential. You will have leadership and project management skills and experience and in-depth knowledge of Health & Safety processes with the ability to produce activity-based Risk Assessments. You will have presentation and communication skills of a high level and flexibility of outlook and high level of teamworking skills. Proven specialist expertise and experience relevant to the School technical facilities that the post holder is responsible for (e.g. Workshops and Studios), including the design of L&T spaces and proven expertise in writing clear and meaningful reports is essential.
Qualifications required
You will be educated with a minimum of Degree or equivalent in a Creative Arts subject or related technical subject or proven work experience.
