DTU Civil and Mechanical Engineering at Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a position as Professor in Structural Dynamics and Control. The Professor will be affiliated to the Section for Solid Mechanics.
The Section for Solid Mechanics conducts research and teaching on the highest international level within the fields of structural mechanics and materials mechanics, vibrations, and their active control, as well as machine elements and design optimization. The section has a scientific staff of about 25 people and 20 PhD students. The research rests on the development of novel methods for the analysis and optimization of components and structures based on mathematical modelling and experimental investigations of phenomena that are highly interdisciplinary and spans many length and time scales.
The research of the professor must span broadly within the field of Structural Dynamics and Control. This includes research in structural health monitoring, design and optimal tuning of dampers, vibration absorbers and feedback control methods, as well as modeling, design and tuning of smart structures devices. The research must relate to applications in the energy sector, where the department has many research projects.
Responsibilities and qualifications
The professor will have a leading role within the Department’s research in vibrations and dynamics. The research must rest on a highly interdisciplinary approach, and it must relate to relevant theoretical and experimental investigations.
It is the goal that the professor will strengthen research and innovation efforts within the research field at the Department by generating new research projects that involve other faculty members within the research group. Research activities are also expected to be conducted in cooperation with relevant groups at the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, and more broadly at Technical University of Denmark as well as abroad. Hence, the successful candidate must demonstrate a proven track record of participating in interdisciplinary research activities, and in attracting and managing research projects, also in close collaboration with industry.
The professor must be an internationally acknowledged expert in the research field of dynamics and vibrations and have significant teaching experience on all university levels from the BSc level to the PhD level. The successful candidate must be an experienced self-driven scientist, with a keen eye for new developments in the general research field.
