We are delighted to announce that we are seeking to appoint a Senior Research Fellow [0.8FTE] to join the University of Cumbria’s Institute of Health to facilitate the delivery of a fully funded Health and Justice programme using nature-connection to improve health and wellbeing, particularly mental health in prison populations thereby addressing inequalities. The research will contribute to developing a critical understanding of the settings approach applied to different prison contexts.

The post represents a unique opportunity to design and implement highly impactful outcome-orientated policy-relevant research and knowledge exchange in applied prison settings. The successful applicant will be experienced in delivering across multiple prison environments and will work closely with prison teams across the North East, Yorkshire and Humber regions, HMPPS HQ and wide range of community organisations to deliver the contract.

Coordinating the award and leading on associated literature reviews, supporting and writing grant applications, data collection and analysis, and preparing reports, presentations and published outputs are key aspects of this role.

Applicants need to meet all essential criteria on the person specification to be considered for interview. This role will be Fixed term for 24 months to 31st March 2028 (Aligned with award funding) and based within the Institute of Health, University of Cumbria.

Please note: This role will involve regular travel across the North East, Yorkshire and Humber regions.
