This new Diabetes UK funded post is available full-time on a fixed term basis from 02/03/2026 - 31/07/2027.
The post
The Faculty wish to recruit a Graduate Research Assistant or Postdoctoral Research Associate to support the work of Professor Angus Jones and the world leading Exeter diabetes research team.
The successful applicant will work on a Diabetes UK funded project using data from >5000 people with insulin-treated diabetes in the UK Biobank.
The post will combine measures of insulin secretion alongside existing investigations and linked electronic healthcare records to determine the prevalence of diabetes mis-classification, how best to identify potential mis-classification and the impact on patients with diabetes.
The post will build on existing work relating to the classification of diabetes subtypes and the development of statistical models. The successful applicant will work with a supportive multidisciplinary team that has impacted diabetes care worldwide and has an outstanding track record of supporting early career scientists.
About you
The successful applicant will have an interest in health research, be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.
For Graduate Research Assistant
Applicants will be educated to first degree level or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study or equivalent experience and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes.
Applicants will have good quantitative skills and knowledge of statistics including experience of statistical programming software (e.g. R or Stata).
Postdoctoral Research Associate
Applicants will possess a relevant PhD (or nearing completion) or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes.
Applicants will have an understanding of statistical concepts and regression modelling and the ability to write analytic code in at least one commonly used statistical programming language (e.g. R/Stata).
