The University of Greater Manchester is a Teaching Intensive, Research Informed Assessment Enabled (TIRIAE) institution. Our curriculum provides learning and education opportunities through its innovative block teaching model – The Greater Manchester Way - offered from its main campus, its satellite campuses and in collaboration with our national and international partner education offerings.

As part of The Greater Manchester Way academic strategy, the Quality Transformation Unit are seeking an experienced and passionate Curriculum Specialist Practitioner to play a key strategic role in enhancing the design and delivery of our taught programmes.

As a pedagogical leader and curriculum expert, you will work collaboratively with academic colleagues and professional services to support curriculum transformation that is research-informed, inclusive, future-focused, and aligned with institutional teaching and learning priorities. You will act as a critical friend and change champion, guiding programme teams through curriculum design, review, validation, and enhancement processes.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape institutional approaches to curriculum quality and innovation, working at both programme and strategic level.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide expert leadership and advice on curriculum design, development, review, and enhancement.
  • Work in partnership with academic teams to co-create engaging, inclusive, and coherent learning experiences.
  • Embed principles of inclusive design, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and digital pedagogy across programmes.
  • Support programme validation and review processes, ensuring alignment with quality assurance frameworks, OfS conditions, and PSRB requirements.
  • Promote and implement evidence-based teaching, learning, and assessment practices.
  • Contribute to professional development through workshops, mentoring, and sharing best practice.
  • Engage in educational scholarship and keep abreast of developments in pedagogy, curriculum theory, and learning technologies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Quality Transformation Unit and digital learning centres (e.g. AI in Education, Internet of Things).
  • Use data, learning analytics, and student feedback to evaluate curriculum effectiveness and impact.
  • Contribute to institution-wide learning and teaching initiatives, events, and strategic projects.

About you

You will be a reflective, collaborative, and evidence-informed practitioner with:

  • A strong understanding of curriculum design and pedagogical theory in higher education
  • Experience of curriculum review, redesign, and validation
  • Expertise in inclusive, student-centred learning and assessment design
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and enhancement frameworks
  • Confidence working across disciplines and influencing change through partnership
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills
  • A commitment to innovation, inclusion, and continuous improvement
